Youth Empowerment Curriculum Support Network

Welcome to the Safe and Stable Community Hub. Thank you so much for your commitment to help kids safe. Here you will find resources that can help round out your curriculum, connect with myself, and other organizations as they do this important work.

This curriculum will be available in September 2025.

A break down of our curriculum is available at this link:

  • Week One

We begin by establishing safety through community agreements and getting to know one another using social location frameworks. Understanding the intersections of participants' identities is crucial for creating authentic safety. Groups work best when organized around particular affinities, as shared experiences allow for deeper trust and more effective learning.

  • Week Two

How do we figure out who we are beyond the messaging we receive from others? This values-based approach helps young people establish their authentic selves.

For faith communities, this includes understanding how to establish your covenant with God, recognizing the Bible as descriptive rather than prescriptive - a template showing how people throughout history have tried to live according to God's plan.

  • Week Three

We question traditional, fear-based notions of safety and explore what true safety means in context. Through examining physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and sexual well-being, participants learn that safety comes through knowledge and community, not through ignorance and isolation.

  • Week Four

How to be safe in practice - when to go to the doctor, how to ask for help, how to process emotions, how to maintain healthy relationships (friendships, family, romantic partners). This includes identifying safe and trusted adults and understanding who to go to about different concerns. Special attention is given to addressing teen domestic violence rates and empowering young people with practical tools.

  • Week Five

Putting safety knowledge into action. What does it look like when someone is doing something unsafe? How do we respond when friends want us to do risky things? How do we address harmful behavior? This week focuses on practical responses and boundary-setting skills.

  • Week Six

Navigating the internet safely, recognizing misinformation, identifying predatory behavior online, and maintaining safety in digital communications including texting and phone conversations.

  • Week Seven

Moving from individual safety to collective care. Understanding our responsibilities to one another and how to show up in community. Evidence-based best practices for tolerance and creating inclusive spaces where everyone can flourish.
